Long Realty Cares Foundation Contributes $8,000 to Relief Efforts in Haiti

(TUCSON, AZ.) Long Realty Cares Foundation has collected $8,000 in donations from Long Companies sales associates and staff towards the continued relief efforts in Haiti.

Immediately following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Long Cares began collecting contributions for the American Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders, two non-profit organizations now heavily embedded in relief efforts.

“It has been truly amazing to see how eager and generous our Long Realty agents and employees have been to donate to Haiti relief efforts,” said Susan Barry, Long Realty Cares Foundation President. “Long Cares will continue to send donations as we collect them for these two outstanding organizations.”

To date, the American Red Cross had spent or committed nearly $78 million to meet the most urgent needs of earthquake survivors in Haiti. The Red Cross allocates 71 percent of all total donations towards supplying food and water to the now-homeless Haitian population. Each day, the Red Cross distributes enough water for 100,000 people and provides 3 million pre-packaged meals and funding for World Food Program efforts that will enable them to feed up to 1 million people for a month.

While the Red Cross attempts to provide enough food and shelter for the countless Haitian people affected by the earthquake, emergency and long-term care is still badly needed. Fortunately, Doctors Without Borders continues to work diligently in Haiti, providing medical care to the wounded. However, there is now a pressing need for post-operative care, as well as the space necessary to provide it. Though conditions are finally improving for the practice of surgery and medicine, there remains a long-term need for extensive medical care for the earthquake survivors.

With relief efforts in Haiti far from over, Long Cares will continue to send donations as they are received. For more information on how you can help, please contact Michelle Salvagio, Foundation Administrator, at (520) 918-3757, or msalvagio@longrealty.com.

About Long Realty Cares Foundation

Long Realty Cares Foundation was established in 2002 to provide a venue for Long Realty sales associates and employees to collectively enhance the quality of life in Arizona. As the Foundation evolves, it is distinguishing itself by building a legacy of philanthropy. To date, more than 1.6 million dollars in support have been donated to over 160 different non-profit organizations in the communities in which we live and work. Foundation monies come from the many Long Realty sales associates who voluntarily donate a portion of their commission from each real estate transaction and from Long Companies employees who personally contribute to the Foundation.
