LAKE TAHOE, Nev., (February 5, 2010) – There are many shades of green, especially when it comes to building environmentally sound homes. North Lake Tahoe is will soon welcome one of the greenest of green homes, as the first LEED® registered residential home recently broke ground in Incline Village. The professionals behind the project, Jeff Miller, president of Advance Design and Construction Inc. and K.J. Miller of Chase International, are inviting everyone from eco-curious individuals to construction and real estate professionals to come along for the ride and learn about the growing field of green building.

Scheduled to be completed mid-summer and listed by K.J. who works out of Chase’s Incline Village office, the home’s progress, construction updates and technical information along with blueprints, can be seen at www.followthegreendreamhome.com

Model home tours with demonstrations and lectures will also be held throughout the course of construction.

“We want people to understand what it means to build green and to educate the public about what their options are,” Jeff commented. “Most people don’t know exactly what is involved with a green build. There are many things you can do to save money and lessen your impact on the environment, but a building project is not truly green unless it’s verified by a licensed unbiased third party.”

LEED® is an internationally recognized green building certification system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council. A LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification verifies that a building or home was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance regarding ecological concerns that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality and stewardship or resources and sensitivity to their impacts. While many homes have been upgraded and renovated to incorporate substantial green features, becoming a LEED® certified home begins with the foundation.

“LEED® or green building, requires rethinking the entire construction process and the systems within the home,” Jeff said. “This is far from hitting the mainstream and the process is by no means etched in stone. It’s a learning process for everyone.”

Advance Design and Construction is a Certified Green Building Professional (through the National Association of Homebuilders) and has made the project a team effort by partnering with more than a dozen suppliers and contractors including electricians, stone masons, painters and sheet rockers to implement LEED® specifications. While he is eager to spread the knowledge of green building to others, Jeff also sees an opportunity to spread the wealth. According to the USGBC, the overall green building market (for both non-residential and residential) is likely to more than double and support nearly 8 million jobs by 2013.

“We’re on the tip of a major building trend,” Jeff explained. “Advance Design is the first local builder to make the investment in both time and money to thoroughly learn and implement the green building process on Tahoe’s North Shore.”

Located on Mill Creek below Highway 28, the property set on a lovely level parcel and is a short walk to the beach, positioning KJ to have a premier Incline Village listing next summer.

“I joined Chase International because it’s an industry leader at the forefront of trends and relevant real estate issues,” said K.J., who is in the process of becoming a certified EcoBroker through the National Association of Realtors. “Advanced Design and Construction and I strive to be at the top of our markets. Collectively, we realize that green/LEED® homes are being requested by buyers more and more as we move into the next decade. Green building will no longer be a novelty but an expectation. The number one reason people are demanding green homes springs from a concern for their family’s wellbeing and for the future of the earth.”
