The Rhode Island Association of Realtors has announced that Karl Martone of RE/MAX Properties in Smithfield and Paul Leys of Gustave White International Realty in Newport have been awarded the Omega Tau Rho award. The Omega Tau Rho fraternity was created by the Executive Committee of National Association of REALTORS© on May 11, 1950, in order to recognize individuals for their outstanding leadership skills.

1276664324Karl Martone is the 2010 President of the Rhode Island Association of Realtors. The 2008 recipient of the Rhode Island Realtor of the year award, he has held numerous positions in the local, state and national associations including his most recent post as 2009 President Elect of the state association. He has also served as President of the Greater Providence Board of Realtors (GPBOR) and the State-Wide Multiple Listing Service (MLS). He is a two-time Lear Award recipient by the GPBOR, the highest honor that a Realtor can receive for outstanding service to the Board, the real estate community and the community at large. He is a resident of Scituate, Rhode Island.

Paul Leys is the Immediate Past President of the Rhode Island Association of Realtors. Licensed since 1988 and co-owner of Gustave White since 2000, Leys holds Certified Residential Broker (CRB), Certified Residential Specialist (CRS), and Graduate REALTOR© Institute (GRI) designations and is an appraiser and licensed auctioneer. He served as the 2007 Treasurer of the Rhode Island Association of Realtors and 2008 President Elect. He is also a Past President of the Newport County Board and was chosen as Newport’s REALTOR© of the Year in 1999. Leys is a third generation native of Newport.
