On October 9, 2005 James Franklin Gebhart died unexpectedly at home. Jim was born in 1947 in Pittsburgh, Pa. He graduated from Boston University in June 1970. He moved to Crested Butte in 1973 after operating "The Bistro" restaurant in Santa Fe. Jim eventually became actively involved in real estate and currently was the owner of Bighorn Realty/Coldwell Banker.

He served as president of the Gunnison County Board of Realtors.

Jim was instrumental in founding and building The Friends Hut; a valued member of the boards of the Crested Butte Land Trust and Friends of Paradise; president of the Trapper's Crossing Property Owner's Association; and most recently on the board of directors of the Gunnison Ranchland Conservation Legacy. He was a tireless advocate of open space.

He is survived by his mother, Virginia, his sister, Nancy Korb, his wife, Rosie, and daughter Cady, and his faithful dog, Everest.

A service will be held at Jim and Rosie's home on the bench at 758 Journey's End Road on Friday, October 14, 2005 at 1 p.m. A viewing will be held at the Gebhart residence on Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. before the service.

Please walk or bike from the Nordic Center parking lot or car pool. Close friends are invited for a pot luck after the service.
