Detroit Red Wings Hockey Star Robert Lang Selling Exclusive Retreat on Daufuskie Island

DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C. – Hockey star Robert Lang, the 6’3” center for the Detroit Red Wings, has decided to sell his luxury home on Daufuskie Island, S.C., an island haven accessible only by boat. Cora Bett Thomas Realty of South Carolina, LLC is listing the home at $2.475 million.

Lang, widely considered to be one of the National Hockey League’s top scorers, led the Czech Republic team to a coveted gold medal in the 1998 Olympic Games. The 34-year-old hockey player will be moving to La Jolla, Calif., with his wife, Jennifer, and their children later this year in order to be closer to their family.

In 1998, the Langs purchased their 4,876-square-foot private retreat on Daufuskie Island’s Haig Point, where the accomplished hockey star enjoyed pursuing his passion for golf, tennis and fishing during the off-season. Lang’s fully-furnished four-bedroom, 4.5 bath Lowcountry-style home features beach access, a saltwater spa pool, Haig Point Golf Club membership (with an amazing view of the fairway) and many other luxury amenities. Lang’s customized Detroit Red Wings golf cart is included in the sale of the home.

“The Lang home offers the ultimate in Lowcountry elegance,” said Cora Bett Thomas, president and CEO of Cora Bett Thomas Realty of South Carolina, LLC. “This is a very special home that combines traditional style with state-of-the-art amenities and showcases the very best of our Southern lifestyle.”

Daufuskie Island, located just one nautical mile from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, is known for its laid-back lifestyle, where residents ride around on the only method of transportation -- golf carts. Haig Point, the island’s signature private community, features a Rees Jones-designed golf course named one of the Top 100 Residential Golf Courses in America by Golfweek and Golf Digest, as well as exercise trails, tennis, equestrian facilities, fishing, crabbing, miles of beaches and extensive maritime forests.

“Although we are happy to be moving closer to family, we will miss the Daufuskie lifestyle,” said Robert Lang. “We love taking the five minute boat ride to Hilton Head Island where we work out, have dinner and enjoy that great vacation atmosphere, as well as the quiet beaches, pristine surroundings and the warm, laid-back environment Daufuskie Island provides for our family. We’ll always have very fond memories of this unique retreat.”
