An exceptional property in pristine, museum-quality condition set on over nine acres off Ocean Drive, the estate was named by the original owner, Snowden Andrews Fahnestock, for an Allied Forces rest camp in France where his regiment was quartered during World War I. The property is a u-shaped Louis XV Revival House modeled after La Lanterne, Versailles and was built from 1931-1933 as a summer home by renowned architects Clinton & Russell of New York.

Restored by the present owner, highlights include re-created hand-painted Chinese wall coverings and imported hardware and eighteenth-century flooring. It also has modern amenities, such as central air, an elevator, three-car attached garage and pool house with a kitchen and changing rooms. The east wing serves as a guest suite/staff quarter. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The sale of this historic property is this year’s fourth highest in Newport. Paul Leys, co-owner of Gustave White Sotheby's International Realty, stated, “According to the RI MLS, there have been 14 sales in Newport over $3 million this year. There were only four sales in this price range in 2019. Newport County, as a whole, had 35 sales over $3 million this year, as opposed to only twelve last year.”
