Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty NEWPORT, RI – Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty announced the sale of ‘Quatrel,’ formerly known as 'Fairbourne,' at 673 Bellevue Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island. Built in 1853, the property sold for $5,995,000. The sellers were represented by Kate Kirby Greenman of Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty. Edith Cushing of RE/MAX Professionals represented the buyers.

The estate’s storied past includes a complete renovation in 1903 by renowned architect Dudley Newton and designer Ogden Codman Jr. to enlarge and remodel the house in the Classical Revival style. In 1949, Louis and Elaine Lorillard, founders of the Newport Jazz Festival, bought the property and renamed it ‘Quatrel’ to reflect the four L’s in their names. Only the sixth family to own the property, the sellers undertook a massive restoration project in 2009, leaving no stone unturned to restore the home to its Gilded Age glory, winning the prestigious Doris Duke Historic Preservation Award.
