Orchid Island Golf & Beach ClubVERO BEACH, FL - Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club holds an annual 5K run/walk to support area organizations. Each year the proceeds from the event benefit a local charity or cause, which is determined earlier in the year by the Club's Fitness and Wellness Committee. This year, the Committee selected the Vero Beach High School Marching Band, but due to COVID-19, the event had to be canceled. However, this setback did not stop the fundraising efforts of the Members at Orchid Island. In fact, they raised enough funds to also support United Against Poverty (UP) of IRC.UAP Annabellal Robertson, Executive Director and Barbara Lowry, Board Chair

“Every year our members at Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club provide generous support to the many well deserving organizations and charities serving the local community. This year, I am happy to share that we are supporting the Vero Beach Marching Band, which will help fund some of their various activities, including scholarships; and, United Against Poverty who has played a very important role during this pandemic by providing food to local residents in need who have been negatively impacted due to stay-at-home orders,” shared Bruce Morrison, Orchid Island Board of Governors Tennis and Fitness Committee Chair.

“United Against Poverty (UP) is grateful for Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club's generous gift resulting from their 2020 5k. Their gift supports our mission to transform lives in Indian River County. The New UP Center, located in downtown Vero Beach, currently serves over 850 families daily. Families visit the center for programs and services including Crisis Care Management, Success Training Employment Program, Member Share Grocery Program and Medical Services at our health clinic operated by Treasure Coast Community Health. UP could not help people lift themselves out of poverty without partners like Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club,” expressed Annabel Robertson, Executive Director.
