Julia Hoagland, Principal of JH Advisors LLC | Compass NEW YORK, NY - Held via Zoom and Facebook Live, Brick by Brick’s: Music for Mothers fundraiser gathered a global audience in a virtual celebration to raise funds to help the organization continue their lifesaving work in Uganda.

Bobby Harden, one of the lead singers for the original Blues Brothers was the musical headliner; with several other acts joining him. As Blues Nights is one of Brick by Brick’s two annual fundraisers, donations were encouraged but not compulsory to attend.

“Maternal mortality has declined 78% since our inception: it's remarkable how far a dollar can go there toward improving lives. The coronavirus has Uganda on lockdown so any financial resources are helpful as we work to create alternative methods to deliver lifesaving services to our constituents.”

More on Brick by Brick and their work:

Families in third world countries often observe pregnancies as a potential life-threatening event, as opposed to a celebration. For the past 15 years, Brick by Brick Uganda (BBB) is working to change that for the 500,000-person community they serve.

  • BBB saves lives: Since 2016, BAMA (Babies and Mothers Alive) has decreased reduced maternal mortality at partnering health facilities 79%
  • BBB is environmentally conscious: In the past eight years, BBB has impacted more than 250,000 people through water, sanitation and other projects, and given 40 masons permanent full-time jobs. BBB builds using bricks they make out of dirt, sand, and a small number of binding materials
  • BBB involves locals for longer-term commitment: BBB partners with local municipalities, getting donations (e.g., 12% of budget of new maternity unit, 25% of budget for school projects); BBB trains midwives around the country
