Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices ChicagoWHEATON, IL – On April 30, 2020, Samantha Bauman and Beth Seibert, both REALTORS® with the Wheaton office of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Chicago, delivered 150 meals to Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois, bringing the total number of meals they’ve delivered to 325. The meals are part of an ongoing effort the duo organized to provide complementary meals to hospital doctors, nurses, technicians, janitors, administrative staff and security personnel that could be taken home at the conclusion of their often 12-hour shift to eat themselves or share with their family members. Each meal serves up to six people and consists of a salad, fully cooked entree and dessert. Meals for Heroes, as the program is called, is a partnership between Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Chicago’s Wheaton office, Bon Appetit Management Company and Wheaton College. With GoFundMe and personal donations, they have raised $6,708 and expect to be able to drop off at least another 85 meals Friday, May 8th.

Samantha Bauman and Beth SeibertThe program has been so well-received that other Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Chicago offices are getting into the act. Healthcare workers have expressed their gratitude on social media.

What started as a Wheaton office fundraising activity to drop 10 meals for guests and gift certificates for ER nurses at Ronald McDonald House quickly grew. A GoFundMe page, combined with Sam and Beth’s personal outreach raised enough money to deliver 175 meals April 23rd. In March, Bauman and Seibert brainstormed ways to give back and struck up a partnership with Bon Appetit at Wheaton College that offered a reduced cost on meals.

“Beth and I thank everyone for their generous contributions to this pandemic response,” said Bauman. “Meals for Heroes has been a truly amazing experience. When we drop off the meals, I can picture the smiles on the faces of the hospital staff behind their masks. Recipients’ eyes say it all. We really are all in this together.”

Seibert added, “We are fortunate to have such dedicated healthcare workers doing everything they can to keep us safe and healthy. The last thing they want to do after a 12-hour workday is grocery shop and cook. We want to make sure that we provide meals to those that can’t get to the store easily or are too tired after work to make a meal.” 150 meals were delivered to Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois

Joe Stacy, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Chicago Senior Vice President, General Sales Manager, Wheaton office manager and Kindness Foundation Chairman, said, “I am so proud of Sam and Beth and the work they’ve done putting together this project. It speaks to their character and what it means to be kind and give back to your community. I am also very proud of our Wheaton agents and community and how they have come together to support our medical professionals on the front lines of this pandemic.”

The program is ongoing and the quantity of meals Bauman and Seibert are able to deliver depends on the generous contributions from the community. To make a contribution, please visit the Meals For Heroes GoFundMe page.
