Orchid Island Realty LogoVERO BEACH, FL - A group of Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club women proudly held their finale “Connecting for Cancer Girls’ Night Out” event on Monday, March 4, 2019 at the beautiful home of Orchid Island Members Bob and Gerri Ripp. Having fun and doing good for others doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive. Just ask these philanthropic women as they combined fun and fundraising. The event, which includes an amazing auction and raffle, raises money to help those struggling with cancer. One hundred percent of the funds are donated to the Pay-It-Forward Fund which is part of the Excellence in Cancer Care Program of IRMC. Women Members of Orchid Island's "Connecting for Cancer" Held Finale Girls' Night Out Bash“We are so honored Orchid has held this event for us for six years. They touch so many patient lives,” said Bev Sanders, Director of Gift Planning at the IRMC Foundation. “It’s truly a gift that you cannot put a price tag on.”

Pay-It-Forward is a special donor generated fund and a wonderful source of hope and comfort to those in need of care. It provides financial assistance to carefully screened patients who are unable to afford needed cancer treatment, diagnostic services and preventative care. Pay It Forward is one of the quietest endeavors of the Foundation, but one of the most gratifying to lives in Indian River County,” shared Nancy Cruce, Event Committee Chair. “One Stage 4 cancer recipient shared with me, "I don't know where I'd be without this donor supported program." Another recipient credited his recovery to the "life-saving medical care" he received. In addition to the women of Orchid Island hosting this cancer awareness event, the guys do their part as well by meeting up at the Beach Club to raise money, enjoy great food and conversation, followed by watching a movie.

Over the last six years, these incredible women and men of Orchid Island have raised over $140,000. The talents and resources are so abundant within the Orchid Community and their passion for improving lives shines through vibrantly in everything they set out to do. "The six-year event has run its course and although this was our final event, I hope that the level of awareness for cancer care assistance will continue to loom high within this wonderful Orchid family,” expressed Cruce.

The Connecting for Cancer concept was created by Committee Chairs Gerry Collins and Nancy Cruce. Other committee members are Polly Behrens, Muci Clemens, Deedee Cunningham, Bonnie Davis, Joanne Dorey, Kay Falise, Carole Finck, Colette Kennedy, Charlotte Klein, Marilyn Kinsella, Kathleen O’Brien, Janet Ramer, Pat Scott, Dorsey Seed, Carrol Spurgeon, Lynda Stinson, Diane VanVliet and Ronnie Weyrauch.
