The power of online and print advertising

Mar 26, 2008

By Courtney Jackson I was reading Shelby Morris’ blog the other day about Print vs. Online advertising and I saw this great entry, entitled Internet Marketing vs. Print Ads, so I thought I would share it. The question this author posed was whether agents should do online or print advertising. One of the agents writing had decided to do just online. Below is a response by Matt Grohe that I thought was very telling: Shelby, I enjoy driving, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t ride a bike, walk, or take a bus or a train. In my estimation, a strategy based entirely on the Internet is a lopsided one.

Good things come in threes (part 2): Born on February 29th

Mar 26, 2008

By Meghan Barry Appropriately, this week I have had several conversations about the Leap Year and, in particular, babies born on February 29th. Each time this topic comes up, I have shared my affinity for The Pirates of Penzance, a comedic opera by W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, also famous for The Mikado and H.M.S. Pinafore (Few people know this, but I was in a Middle School rendition of The Mikado).

New opportunities await at the Luxury Real Estate Spring Retreat

Mar 26, 2008

By Jennifer Schuyler I cannot tell you how excited I am about the upcoming Spring Retreat at The Grand Del Mar in San Diego, California! Over the last five years working within our industry, I have not experienced or met such a high-caliber group of people representing Luxury Real Estate. Our conferences are amazing opportunities to network, increase referral business and allow new and senior members to establish personal and professional relationships.

The right way to make mistakes

Mar 26, 2008

By Robert Lockard It seems like an oxymoron, but I believe there is a right way to make mistakes. In fact, I think that I’d like to see more people making mistakes because that means that they’re moving beyond their comfort zones and trying new things. It’s scary to put yourself at risk. It hurts to be criticized. It’s not a whole lot of fun to expose your weaknesses. But each of these frightening things can help us grow more than trying to always look polished and perfect.

Father knows best about networking with the best

Mar 26, 2008

By Allyson Metters I was recently speaking with my brother, who is in the market for a new home in Santa Cruz, CA. I immediately offered my services to help with the process, but, being the independent 28-year-old that he is, he told me that he’s got it all under control. As an artist/plumber who specializes in custom copper piping, he has created his own referral network that serves him well.

Getting through giving

Mar 26, 2008

By Brian Langhorst Philanthropy, community-based giving, social justice, and volunteering are all ways you as a luxury agent can make a difference and set yourself apart from your competition. Find a cause near to your heart and get involved. The benefits are more powerful than any magazine or newspaper advertisement. We would love to help you to speak about your passions to the end audience.

Humor -> Truth -> Kindness -> Expertise -> Compassion and the greatest of these is

Mar 26, 2008

By Scott Rudolph As a parent of four, it’s easy to catch me giving thanks for my extended family nearby always sharing humor, truth, kindness, expertise, compassion and much more. In fact, I’ve said we may not have had four if it weren’t for our support system nearby. It’s a similar feeling I have when thinking of my career with this company. I wouldn’t have lasted a moment in my nearly eight-year career with LuxuryRealEstate.com without continual interaction with the finest in our industry. They continually succeed in any market – yes, even in a slow one – because of these same core character traits. They are world influencers in constant communication with other world influencers, yet they are always sure to communicate each and every one of us is an influencer. There are others outside of my immediate reach, such as Joel Burslem, Seth Godin and Brad Inman, whom I admire as well. I trust they share these traits, too. Whom do you admire in this industry or others and why? Please direct your comments to me at Scott@luxuryrealestate.com or 206-695-4821. Editor’s Note: Scott Rudolph is the Director of Business Development for LuxuryRealEstate.com. He works with a variety of luxury-focused companies to expand the LuxuryRealEstate.com influence. Now that is a good question that Scott asked. Whom do we admire? I admire people who are patient, kind and longsuffering, among other things. I hope that we will all strive to be admirable and deserving of praise, just like Scott and many other people I know at LuxuryRealEstate.com.
