How To Spring Ski Like A Local

Aug 29, 2017 — Dennis Hanlon, Summit Sotheby's International Realty

March 9, 2017 (original post date) Ahhh….Spring! The sun is higher in the sky, the days are longer and noticeably warmer.  Heavy winter coats are discarded for lightweight jackets, windbreakers and even short-sleeve shirts.  Goggles are replaced with sun glasses and afternoons on the deck with a favorite beverage are the norm.

Vail Is At It Again !

Aug 29, 2017 — Dennis Hanlon, Summit Sotheby's International Realty

February 21, 2017 (original post date) Well….Vail is at it again! This morning it was announced that Vail is acquiring Stowe Mountain Resort in Vermont, making this their first purchase in the East.  The philosophy of the Vail expansion is to diversify and insulate themselves from one area of the country that is having a bad winter while at the same time offering their season pass holders (Epic Pass) a wide variety of resorts and terrain in other parts of the country and world to enjoy, as the Epic Pass is good at any and all of their resorts. Vail currently owns/operates 11 resorts in Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Colorado, Utah, California and Australia.  By next ski season, Vail will also own/operate Whistler/Blackcombe in British Columbia and now Stowe in Vermont.  In 2014 Vail purchased Park City Mountain Resort and quickly combined it with its neighbor, Canyons Resort, to make it the largest resort in the United States.

Historical Architecture of Grosse Pointe – Welcome to 781 Lake Shore

Aug 29, 2017 — Higbie Maxon Agney, Inc. Realtors

Historical Architecture of Grosse Pointe – Welcome to 781 Lake Shore In amongst the many historic homes on Lake Shore there are a few mid century modern residences. During the 1950’s/1960’s - a period when the popularity of mid century modern architecture was arguably at its peak - Lake Shore welcomed several new homes in this distinctive architectural style. We recently covered 906 Lake Shore - built in 1954 this home was one of the earlier mid century modern homes to be constructed in the area, and it is a superb example of this design approach. President's Day Weekend

Aug 29, 2017 — Dennis Hanlon, Summit Sotheby's International Realty

February 16, 2017 (original post date) While it seems that ski season has just begun, it is already President’s Day weekend and skiing couldn’t be better!  Deer Valley has received over 25’ of snow so far this year and the town is hopping. For the week leading up to President’s Day weekend I can’t recall ever seeing the town quite so full. This, of course, makes the business owners in town and the condo owners extremely happy as condos, restaurants and shops are full of happy skiers. This weekend officially starts the final push to the end of the ski season. After the President’s Day holiday, it seems that we jump right into all of the spring breaks.

Sundance Week

Aug 29, 2017 — Dennis Hanlon, Summit Sotheby's International Realty

January 17, 2014 (original post date) The middle of January has become known as Sundance Week in Park City, as this is the time when the Sundance Film Festival takes over the town. Sundance is the largest independent film festival in the world and attracts several thousand people who make the films, produce the films, purchase films or are just here to watch the films and partake in the festivities. This is the 30th anniversary of Sundance and it has become more than just a screening venue for films. Celebrities now are here to see and be seen and many musical performances and concerts are held. Like last year, Blues Traveler, the wonderful blues band will be playing at one of the local hotels as well as many other surprise performances.

Howloween and Snow!

Aug 29, 2017 — Dennis Hanlon, Summit Sotheby's International Realty

November 1, 2013 (original post date) Yesterday was Halloween, or as we refer to it here in Park City, “Howl-o-ween,” and is one of the best parties on Main Street for the year. Starting at 3:00 Main Street is closed to traffic and the young children, escorted and unescorted, come and all of the merchants give out treats. Around 4:00 the big kids start arriving along with seemingly every dog in Park City. Most everyone and every dog is costumed and Main Street becomes one big party. At 5:00 there is a dog parade…sort of. And I say sort of as it is not very organized and people seem to be walking all directions with their dogs, stopping to visit and take photos. This year several of the nightclubs brought speakers out for music as well as live music in one of the parks. Even though it was fairly cold, lightly snowing, everyone seemed to be having a fabulous time. I met people from various other parts of Utah who come up specifically for Howl-o-ween on Main Street every year.

Fall Update and the Government Shutdown

Aug 29, 2017 — Dennis Hanlon, Summit Sotheby's International Realty

October 13, 2013 (original post date) In real estate news, the big question that everyone is asking is what effect the government shutdown is having on real estate. For the most part it has not affected us yet as sales are still quite brisk. The question that everybody has been asking is “is the shutdown affecting the ability of buyers to obtain financing?” The area where this becomes tricky is that lenders are required to verify tax returns with the IRS, and with the IRS shut down this is obviously a problem. Most of the lenders that I have spoken with here in town are saying that as long as the borrower is a W-2 salaried employee, they can use that until the IRS reopens and they can get official verification. For self-employed borrowers, financing will be extremely difficult as there is no way to verify income. So for many of our buyers, lenders can work around the IRS issue and successfully close on loans.
