Aug 31, 2012 — Liane ("Li") Read, Sea to Sky Real Estate

The Perfect Beach Awaits Your Pleasure! Well, it's Chesterman's Beach, on the spectacular west coast of Vancouver Island...of course! This baby point of land, at mid-point along this amazing beach, between North & South Chesterman's Beach, has been enjoyed by the same family since the 1970s...yes, there is a hand-hewn summer/weekender retreat home on the property, which has mainly been a rental option in past years, but the value is in the location, the sun exposure, the privacy, the topography, the natural scape, as this land has not been "developed" with someone else's ideas...this beauty awaits your pleasure! A property to savour...a vista to inspire...a beach to both energize & to soothe the soul. Arrive by private jet, or regular flight (airport near Tofino). Come in by floatplane, into Tofino's Harbour. A drive through Vancouver Island's unspoiled "middle" delivers you to this majestic west coast lifestyle...a two hour drive through this scenic wonderland connects Vancouver Island's east & west coasts. Don't delay...when this is gone, there isn't another one like it...totally unique & very alluring. Family retreat, corporate get-away, private enclave just for you? You decide! A WOW, waiting for your discovery....

Miners Day in Park City

Aug 30, 2012 — Dennis Hanlon, Summit Sotheby's International Realty

This weekend for the rest of the country might be Labor Day but here in Park City it is Miners' Day. This is where we celebrate our mining heritage. We used to start the day with a dynamite revelry, where the town would shoot off sticks of dynamite for half an hour at 6:00 in the morning to wake every one up. Mind you it wasn't must a little boom. Windows rattled, dogs ducked for cover under the bed and it certainly woke you up. Well, we seem to have outgrown this tradition, possibly because of people wanting to sleep in on Miners' Day. So now we just have our traditional small town parade followed by festivities in City Park and the very popular Mucking and Drilling contests. The Mucking and Drilling contest involve former and current miners from around the area who compete in two categories: the first is the drilling where a big slab of granite is placed with numerous squares on it and each miner hoists a 75 lb pneumatic drill and attempts to drill 5 holes in the granite in the shortest time possible. Secondly is the mucking competition. This is where the miners operate a pneumatic ore cart with a shovel on the front of it and pulling an empty ore cart. The goal is to operate this contraption to shovel the waste rock form the mining or from blasting into the empty ore cart and fill it in the shortest amount of time as well. All great fun, great entertainment and of course made even more fun with a few beers.
