Pacific Northwest Coast "season" now on...May begins it!

Apr 30, 2012 — Liane ("Li") Read, Sea to Sky Real Estate

I know the calendar says that Summer officially starts at the Solstice, but I always think that May, on the Pacific Northwest Coast, shimmers with summery allure, and really begins our "season". This La Nina weather year delivered a November feel to the Pacific Northwest since October...or so it seems. Suddenly, though, Mommy Nature has delivered her usual charm...leaves have feathered into fullness, blossoms emerged, flowers are fluffing gardens...a rich green explosion that only this coast seems to offer. If a sunburst appears, get out there & enjoy...even if showers prevail, breathe in the clean dream of the air here...the word elixir comes to mind. Rain or shine, we know this thin rim of land between the sea & the mountains is "the best". And now our main season is with us, May to October, long days of pleasure in this natural world we are lucky to call home. Enjoy!

The Perfect Beach Well, it's Chesterman's Beach, on the spectacular west coast of Vancouver Island...of course! This baby point of land, at mid-point along this amazing beach, has been enjoyed by the same family since the 1970s...yes, there is a hand-hewn summer/weekender retreat home on the property, which has mainly been a rental option in past years, but the value is in the location, the sun exposure, the privacy, the topography, the natural scape, as this land has not been "developed" with someone else's ideas...this beauty awaits your pleasure! A property to savour...a vista to inspire...a beach to both energize & to soothe the soul. Arrive by private jet, or regular flight (airport near Tofino). Come in by floatplane, into Tofino's Harbour. A drive through Vancouver Island's unspoiled "middle" delivers you to this majestic west coast lifestyle...a two hour drive through this scenic wonderland connects Vancouver Island's east & west coasts. Don't delay...when this is gone, there isn't another one like it...totally unique & very alluring. Family retreat, corporate get-away, private enclave just for you? You decide! A WOW, waiting for your discovery....

Small town pleasures...the community cares!

Apr 27, 2012 — Liane ("Li") Read, Sea to Sky Real Estate

Small town pleasures.... Well, let's see: there is a caring side to a small community. On the surface, it might have a busy-body flavour on occasion, and it might also seem very opinionated, no middle ground regions, just "this is the way" pronouncements...especially at public meetings on any issue. That's the wave action of the ocean surface talking...drop down a few feet & things smooth out, differences dissipate, & when a member of the community needs help, the community responds. There's that caring side. So many times, when life altering events happen to a person or a family, suddenly someone opens a bank account & the community pays in whatever they can spare...there's the true reading, then, of the plus of a small community. It's not an anonymous lifestyle & sometimes one can get typecast, but there is a caring aspect where & when it counts. Just my thought!

Summer has sprung

Apr 24, 2012 — Dennis Hanlon, Summit Sotheby's International Realty

Well summer arrived over the weekend with temperatures in the mid-70s and crystal blue skies. It was a weekend for yardwork, golf, and barbecues on the deck. I was looking on the avalanche centers’ website and they had a graph of snow totals for the last several years. what was interesting to me–and that’s probably only because I’m a weather nut–is that last year, as we all recall was an epic year, the snow pack was increasing through the first week of May and peaked somewhere around May 5th or 6th with a base depth of about 160″. This year the snowpack peaked around March 20th with a base depth of only 65″ and has been decreasing ever since. As of today there’s very little snow in the mountains especially below about 8,000 feet and everybody is in full summer mood. Mountain bikes and road bikes were in abundance over the weekend and the golf course was packed.
