One of the most beautiful moments in our community each year is driving through Summit on the evening of December 24th to see the streets glowing with luminaries. The Annual Summit Luminary Fund Project, which began 37 years ago, has grown into a successful community effort and last year raised over $85,000 for local charities.
Since the inception of the Summit Luminary Fund, Lois Schneider Realtor has been the underwriter of this magical event. Last year, approximately 36,000 luminaries were purchased in order to line the streets of Summit with a gorgeous glow. Special thanks are extended to Luminary Fund President, Barbara Romano, this year’s area leaders, Francie Cho, Pam Kuhn, Linda Massengill, and John Blomfield, and the many volunteers who fill thousands of bags with sand and candles.
The funds raised by selling the luminaries brighten the lives of many in need throughout the year. This year’s recipients are: ABC Area Baby Center, Bridges Summit School Supply Drive, Christ Child Society of Summit Layette Program, Family Promise of Union County, SAGE Eldercare Spend-A-Day, Summit Santa Claus Shop, SHIP Summit Helping Its People, Summit’s Senior Connections, Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad, and The Valerie Fund’s Camp Happy Times.
“We are proud to work with the Summit Luminary Fund and the non-profit beneficiaries that contribute so much to our town. At Lois Schneider Realtor we are committed to helping support their work,” stated Karen Schneider, President of Lois Schneider Realtor.
