Don’t you wonder why is it that the more serious you become about finding a new home, the more convinced you become that it is hard to find? We guess that everyone who’s been home-hunting before experienced a phenomena wherein the more homes they get to see in person, the more their list of must-haves get longer!

Finding a home then becomes a real challenge because you end up feeling that you’re simply settling or compromising when the truth is, your dream home is right in front of you and staring you in the face. Some people do realize this, which brings up another dilemma, how do you know which compromises are okay and which ones will result in heartache later on? We’ve got you covered in today’s article! Below are compromises which you should never have to make when buying a home.

Going Over Your Budget

Everyone wants a good home, but a good home will be a thing of misery if you end up going into debt because of it. Before you go about looking for a home, you will have to sit down and figure out your absolute ceiling for home prices that will still allow you to live comfortably. You also have to consider that owning a home comes with extra fees for maintenance, repairs, utilities, HOA fees, and property tax. Don’t ever go over budget.

Getting Sidetracked by Seemingly Good Offers

Most homebuyers want a turnkey, and if you’re one of them, don’t allow yourself to be tempted into getting a fixer-upper. Buying a fixer-upper is signing up for the challenge of renovating and investing yourself emotionally into a home. If you’re not the type who gets thrilled by that, you won’t be happy having to take on home improvement projects.

Giving Up On a Neighborhood with Great Schools

Whether you have children or not, buying a home with good schools nearby will work favorably for you, so go for it if that is what is on your list of must-haves! A home in a school district with great schools is easier to sell later, and of course, your children will appreciate the head start in life that going to good schools brings.

Sacrificing Commute Time

An extra few miles out of your target area may seem okay on paper, but that doesn’t translate well to real life. A few miles out of a certain location can mean dealing with an extra hour or two of traffic congestion for your daily commute. It may mean always having to use a car to go to a store instead of mere walking distance! That’s a lot of time wasted just going to and from your home!

Compromising on the Floor Plan

The number of bedrooms you need and the home layout you want is your ideal because that will give you an easier life on a daily basis. Compromising on that means hassling yourself everyday for as long as you live in the same house.

The best way to avoid getting frustrated regarding getting a new home is to make sure that you stick to your list of must-haves and firmly say no to deal breakers. Focus on what you want and get a real estate agent who’ll try hard hitting all your check marks.
