RENO, NV – Chase International has announced the listing of an unparalleled property in Reno, Nevada. Situated on a bluff on historic California Avenue, within walking distance of restaurants and events along the revitalized downtown River Walk area, the beautifully restored and renovated Nixon Mansion commands spectacular views of downtown Reno, the Truckee River and Peavine Mountain. The Nixon Mansion was recently listed on the market for $20,400,000.
The Italian villa takes its name from its original owner, Nevada Senator George S. Nixon, who built the prestigious estate in 1907 on property purchased from his business associate and fellow Senator, Francis G. Newlands. The mansion, which sits on 2.03 acres, originally had 33 rooms, and was one of the first residences in Reno to have an elevator.
Rich in history, the property has welcomed politicians, dignitaries, and entrepreneurs, while serving as a private home to such notable Reno families as Dr. William Johnson and his wife Janet, the daughter and granddaughter of Nevada senators, and Dr. John Iliescu who purchased the estate as a site for his medical practice. In the early 1970s, the Board of Regents of the University of Nevada considered establishing their headquarters in the mansion.
In 1979, a fire left the mansion uninhabitable. The current owners purchased the estate in 2002, and have spent the past decade meticulously restoring the 17,964-square-foot property both inside and out. The choice of materials and fine craftsmanship is evident throughout.
The new 860-square-foot kitchen wing features a butler’s pantry, laundry room, walk-in pantry, 60 inch La Crue French range, and multiple refrigerators and dishwashers – all the amenities needed for hosting large corporate events or family gatherings. Reminiscent of old world elegance, the stately formal dining room with a carved mahogany fireplace, provides seating for 60 guests under the original crystal chandelier. An 800-square-foot grand ballroom with Boiserie finish walls offers additional space for entertaining, as do an 1800-bottle wine cellar and tasting area, a game room with wet bar which can easily serve as a theatre, music studio, or private gallery, and a sunlit morning breakfast room.
The master suite includes two Carrara marble bathrooms, each with a custom mahogany walk-in closet, a garden-view Juliet balcony, and a private office that provides sweeping views of the river below. Seven additional en-suite bedrooms offer ample accommodations for guests or corporate visitors.
The expansive outdoor covered terrace overlooking the Truckee River provides yet another space for entertaining, and the grounds have been splendidly landscaped to complement the stately residence.
Though grand in nature, the home also lends itself to intimate social gatherings in the parlor, library, and the river-view bar, and the nine fireplaces throughout the home lend an air of warmth to any occasion.
The Nixon Mansion not only stands as witness to a significant and colorful past, but also as a sentinel for a bright and polished future. Just a short drive to the Reno Tahoe International Airport, Lake Tahoe’s azure waters, and University of Nevada sports and cultural events, this Northern Nevada crown jewel offers mixed-use zoning and Nevada’s tax-friendly advantages.
The Nixon Mansion is currently listed with Realtors Sandi Solomonson, Donna Spear and Trinkie Watson of Chase International. “I see enormous potential for the estate to serve as a corporate retreat, an off-campus office, or a destination for special events,” said Donna Spear.
