Neighborhoods

River Oaks Area Neighborhoods

Here is an exceptional collection of splendid mansions, secluded estates and lovely homes. Manicured lawns and profusions of azaleas beneath ancient trees. A sanctuary of calm within the city.

Without question, this is Houston's best-known neighborhood. The centerpiece of River Oaks is its namesake boulevard, a broad avenue of stately houses leading to the River Oaks Country Club's grand portico.

Spreading out from this hub today are residential choices in Avalon Place, Royden Oaks, Oak Estates, Kettering Oaks, Afton Oaks, Highland Village/Lynn Park, Glendower Court and the Upper Kirby District.

These neighborhoods have flourished and matured over the years. Great homes, old and new, pay tribute to a wealth of architectural styles--chateau, plantation, Spanish, Tudor, Palladian and traditionally styled one-stories--creating what has been described as "elegant individuality."

Memorial

In Memorial, streets are country lanes and neighborhoods are villages. The homes are secluded and the schools are outstanding.

A Memorial address signals personal achievement, showcase architecture, exceptional educational opportunities and civic pride. Here is country living with sophisticated flair.

The incorporated townships and neighborhoods that comprise Memorial offer distinct personalities, yet they share certain definite advantages. There's the lush pine and hardwood canopy that shades meandering Buffalo Bayou. Proximity to schools, churches, retail and job centers. Excellent security and city services. Protective covenants. A variety of home styles to choose, from ranch to sleek contemporary to Georgian brick mansion, with prices from 5,000 to the millions.

What especially impresses first-time Memorial visitors is just how accessible Houston's downtown is to a "place in the country." This forest of homes is only minutes from the city center via the I-10 (Katy) Freeway or the more scenic Memorial Drive route. Increasingly, executives and professionals are choosing Memorial homes for both the pleasure of their families and the convenience to work.

Tanglewood

Comfortable. Quiet. Convenient. A place that is equal parts casual and cosmopolitan. A green space. A family place. Stroll the oak-arched esplanades and you forget the sophisticated city that's so conveniently nearby.

Over the years, a dynamic Houston has brought its very best to Tanglewood's doors. A few minutes away is the world-renowned Galleria, centerpiece of a retail and business district offering famous labels, fine dining and striking architecture.

The area also hosts educational opportunities, both public and private, and many nearby churches. Within a bike ride is a family-oriented YMCA, plus any number of multi-sport city parks. Houston Country Club offers exceptional members-only golf and tennis and Houston Racquet Club offers tennis, while just to the east, Memorial Park boasts a fine public golf course and tennis courts.

A Tanglewood area resident can enjoy access to major metro thoroughfares and freeways, while still knowing the peace and pleasure that living here can bring.

Briargrove Park

Briargrove Park. A family neighborhood so pleasing it seems almost tucked away from today.

If a single snapshot could ever capture the spirit of Briargrove Park, it might be a child biking home to supper down a twilit street. Because this is a place where families are begun. And families grow. Where the homes have room for neighborhood get-togethers.

Briargrove Park prides itself on its well-tended lawns and warm welcome to newcomers.
