Stately situated on close to an acre of prime knoll-top property, this estate offers soaring 12 ft. ceilings on the 1st floor, and 10 ft. ceilings on the 2nd for comfortable and spacious living. The enormous Master Bath has 20 ft. high ceilings, and Master Bedroom has 12 ft. ceilings. An immense front to back entry hall is framed by Corinthian columns and intricate ceiling moldings. A grand staircase is accented by a 9 panel 12'X12' stain glass window. There are 6 fireplaces, and 8 exceptionally large bedrooms arranged into a Master's Wing, a 2nd Wing, a Guest or In-law Wing with its own kitchenette, and a 3rd floor suite. There are 2 master baths, 3 full baths, and 2 half baths. Extensive wainscoting, chair-rails, intricate moldings, tall solid wood doors, large and stately windows, and French doors are found throughout the home. Many of the rare woods and artisan tiles were imported from Brazil, England, and Italy. The home is a short walk to beautiful downtown Summit, and the direct train to NYC.
The manor was designed and built by our nation's most revered and celebrated architect Henry Bacon of the Lincoln Memorial fame. His signature Beaux-Arts inspired Neo Greek-Roman style creates a luxurious yet peaceful, tranquil, and blessed atmosphere. Mr. H. A. LaFetra of the Royal Baking Powder Company (known today as NJR Nabisco) commissioned architect Henry Bacon in 1897 when Mr. Bacon first left the world's most renowned architecture firm McKim, Mead & White in NYC to start his own firm. It was this same year a citizen's committee intent to build a memorial for President Lincoln approached Mr. Bacon with the project.
Other American royalties have lived here including McGraw of McGraw Hill Publishing and the Reeds of the Reeves-Reed Arboretum in Summit . The current owners, industry leaders in their own right, have meticulously restored this Architectural gem to its original glory while enhancing it with modern amenities. LaFetra awaits its new owners to carry on its legacy of sheltering & prospering our American Leaders.
