In the Esprit of Paris… The Bainbridge Island Downtown Association (BIDA) and The Revitalization Partnership (TRP) created the first annual Winslow In White, September 11, 2011.  Like the original Diner en Blanc, a pop-up dinner that started in Paris 35 years ago, our Winslow version borrowed from the virtual nature of the invite and encourages friends to dress in white and meet for a mass “chic picnic” at one, long communal dinner table down the center of Winslow Way.

Diner en Blanc or The White Party, an invite-only secret dinner party that descends upon a different and very public location each year. This year it was held in the Cour Carree de Louvre and the Notre Dame cathedral.  The location is announced upon boarding pre-arranged buses that take the invitees to the dinner spot. Everyone must wear white, bring dinner in a picnic basket, chairs, table and champagne.  You exchange food with those around you.   For those interested in the history… the Diner en Blanc was started by a man names Francois Pasquier who invited a few friends to the Bois de Boulogne one day in June. To find each other in the park, they all wore white.  The dinner began thirty-five years ago with just a few people and took a hold of the pupular imagination so that in just a few years thousands were attending.    Here are a few photos of Downtown Bainbridge Island's Dinner in White:
