As many of us in the luxury real estate industry watch with horror and sadness as the oil spill in the gulf continues to grow in terms of its scope and impact, I began to reflect on the ramifications this has and will continue to have on some of the most prominent coastal properties in the USA.
The beauty of the beaches, boating and fishing opportunities that have become synonymous with the lifestyle for many Gulf Coast States are certainly going to be enduring one of the most traumatic natural disasters in the history of the region. Unlike the hurricanes and seasonal storms which the area is somewhat accustomed to enduring and rebuilding from, this oil spill will more than likely leave a long lasting scar on many of the core elements and draws of this spectacular region. The impact of this can't be underestimated as one of the most popular vacation and retirement regions in the USA works to measure the short and long term ramifications of this tremendous tragedy.
Those of us in the luxury real estate industry whose focus in specifically on those lifestyle elements which define coastal living in the Gulf are going to be faced with challenges and opportunities. As a international owner and broker working in Costa Rica, my heart goes out to our colleagues whose homes, businesses and core markets are left to deal with the results of this spill. I also wanted to invite and plant seeds to agents in the currently affected and TO BE AFFECTED regions to take advantage of our network to begin helping their clients find other investment and lifestyle investments which provide a clean, sustainable and luxurious long term alternative. As the REGENTS for Costa Rica, we have a wide selection of properties here which provide access to some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, the finest fishing on the planet and several world class Marinas which are in operation or nearing completion as I type. Certainly, markets can't simply be transferred from one region to another, but in the face of adversity, new opportunities must be sought out, and I think Costa Rica offers a unique alternative which LRE members can and should consider. Easy access, stable government, great health care, a great value proposition on luxury real estate, world class fishing, beaches, etc. We are eager to extend our network and collaborate with other LRE members and can offer you an unmatched level of service and integrity.
In these tough times when sourcing buyers is already more difficult than years past, and faced with these kinds of unprecedented natural disasters, strengthening our collaborative efforts is crucial to our prosperity. For those of you fighting the effects of the spill, we invite you to contact us to discuss strategies as to how we can open our markets up and succeed together.
