1424802067Dana Landry, Principal Broker of Washington Fine Properties, the premier residential real estate firm in the nation's capital, shares how he got his start in real estate and what path his career has taken since. As Principal Broker, Dana is responsible for the overall management and operations of WFP, including finance, human resources and information technology, and has been instrumental in the firm's well-managed growth since its inception.

How did you get your start in real estate?

In 1999, three of my friends - Bill Moody, Tom Anderson and Marc Schappell and I formed a “start-up” company called Washington Fine Properties. The company took-off and grew so quickly that I left my career in Telecommunications to manage the growth of our new firm.

What path has your career taken?

It has been an exciting 16 years! Washington Fine Properties has grown to 130 agents with $2 billion in sales volume. We have earned a reputation for being the best carriage-trade firm in the Capital Region and have achieved annual awards for having the highest sales volume per agent and the highest average sales price in America for the past five years.

Why is your company successful?

Largely because we have the finest agents in our region and because of our management support. The four partners of the firm are “hands-on” and manage the business day-in and day-out.

What are your favorite parts of your job?

There is no question – What gets my adrenaline going, is helping an agent land a listing or negotiate a sale.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Real Estate! As well as exercise and travel to warm places.
