1295636782The most important tourism trade fair in the world is being held in Madrid (Spain) this weekend.

FITUR, the International Tourism Trade Fair, celebrates its 31st anniversary from the 19th to the 23rd of January 2011, with over 10,500 exhibiting companies from 166 different countries or regions, occupying 10 exhibition halls of the Ifema complex in the Spanish capital and covering 75,000 sqm worth of floor space.

Inaugurated by Her Majesty Queen Sofia on the 19th, the first 3 days are dedicated solely to professionals, with the trade fair open to the general public over the weekend. By attending the official opening of FITUR 2011, the Royal House once again expresses its unconditional support for the Fair and the tourism sector in general, a key to the Spanish economy.

1295636892Over the years, FITUR has established itself as the main meeting point for tourism professionals during which they can establish lines of action, strategies and business alliances which help boost the tourism business worldwide by introducing innovations to adapt the sector to the changing demands of the market. During the last edition, 124,644 professional participants and 7,532 journalists visited the Tourism Trade Fair, with representatives from promotion agencies, operators, hotels, travel agencies, consultancies and experts in international tourism management and development from all over the world. And all with one idea in mind: to transform leisure into business and business into development for those destinations that welcome millions of travelers who visit and enjoy them.

The latest destinations to attend FITUR 2011 for the first time are the Republic of Congo, Zambia and Pakistan, in addition to new official representations for New Zealand, Namibia, Trinidad and Tobago, Lebanon and South Africa, demonstrating confidence in Fitur as a promotional platform for their first class tourist proposals.
