Attractions

Haleakala Crater

This deep pit at the top of Mount Haleakala, one of the dormant volcanoes that formed Maui, has a circumference of 21 miles and sits more than 10,000 feet above sea level. For an experience you won’t soon forget, drive to the crater to watch the sun rise. You’ll have to set your alarm for an early hour, but seeing the famed Maui sunrise from the island’s most famous vantage point is well worth a few yawns during the day.

Maui Ocean Center

The Maui Ocean Center, a state-of-the-art marine park, is the only facility in the world dedicated to fostering understanding, wonder and respect for Hawaii’s marine life. Here, visitors can see spectacular live coral displays (the largest collection in the nation), marvel at elusive garden eels and majestic lionfish, muse at the colorful Hawaiian wrasse, enjoy playful swimming displays by Hawaii’s beloved green sea turtles and awe at close encounters with sharks, rays and more, while learning about Hawaii’s natural history and cultural heritage.

Pacific Whale Foundation

The Pacific Whale Foundation offers eco-tours, kid-friendly activities and more. The Foundation's mission is to inspire and promote appreciation, understanding and protection of whales, dolphins, coral reefs and our planet's oceans.

Maui's Winery at Ulupalakua Ranch

Maui's only commercial winery, a 20,000-acre tract known as Ulupalakua Ranch, has a history as full-bodied as the wine now produced by Tedeschi Vineyards.

Museums

Whalers Village Museum

This history-oriented museum brings to life Lahaina's whaling era with hundreds of artifacts, photo murals and interpretive graphics. The story is told through the eyes of an ordinary sailor or "whaleman," and illustrates the challenges of daily life on the sea.

Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum

Located next to Hawaii's largest working sugar factory in the historic plantation town of Puunene, the award-winning Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum is dedicated to preserving and presenting the history and heritage of Maui's sugar industry. Includes intriguing displays on the inner workings of a sugar mill.

Neighborhoods

West Maui

In West Maui, the town of Lahaina offers Front Street, an upscale boulevard with art galleries, fine eateries, a bustling harbor, shopping and nightlife. About 10 minutes away is Kanapali, a resort area known for its golf courses, beaches and four-star hotels. Further down the coast is the town of Kapalua, where the renowned Kapalua Bay Hotel and Ritz Carlton Kapalua are popular destinations.

South Maui

Kihei is the site of many hotels and swimming beaches and is a popular spot with families. South of Kihei is Wailea, a world-famous resort community with stunning beaches and first-class amenities. Notable resorts include Kea Lani Resort, the Four Seasons Resort and the Maui Prince. Down the road is Makena State Park, one of the world's best swimming beaches.

Upcountry

The small towns in Upcountry Maui are more laid-back that Wailea and Lahaina and are home to native islanders and transplants alike. There are protea farms, cattle ranches, botanical gardens and few stores or restaurants. Makawao and Pukalani are the largest towns.

North Shore

The North Shore encompasses Paia, Kuau, Sprecklesville, Aiku and Huelo. The area offers stunning natural beauty, but few North Shore properties have direct beach access.

Kahanu Garden

Located in Hana, this garden houses the world's largest collection of breadfruit and is the largest ancient place of worship for the Polynesian people.

Honolua Bay

A marine sanctuary, part of the Mokuleia Marine Life Conservation District, with an abundance of sea life.

Front Street
