Societal Shift Means Social Unrest?

Mar 31, 2009 — Liane ("Li") Read, Sea to Sky Real Estate

I entertain myself, over breakfast tea and toast (it's that Brit background!), with clicking between BBC, CNN, CBC, MSNBC, BNN, CNBC, etc., in an effort to get some sense of balanced news. I live in an area with a weekly newspaper, no local t.v. or radio. This morning appeared to be an alert about impending social unrest.

Florida Takes "Green" Seriously

Mar 30, 2009 — Julie Jones, PA, Florida Luxurious Properties

Citizens of the Sunshine State spend less per person on energy than any other state in the country – about 20% less than the national average. Quote: US Dept of Energy This recent quote from the US Department of Energy, along with the March announcement by Vice President Joe Biden that the Obama administration will invest over $302Million in weatherization and energy efficiency funding for Florida suggests that going “Green” is the clear and present future for real estate in Florida, nay, the country.

Market thoughts from Salt Spring Island....

Mar 30, 2009 — Liane ("Li") Read, Sea to Sky Real Estate

Salt Spring Island, and the other Southern Gulf Islands, like much of Vancouver Island generally, saw a "flat time"/a plateau of inactivity, from about the end of 2005. This area has become a totally non-local buyer profile, over the past 8 or 9 years, and so we are more affected by events in the home areas of our buyers, than by B.C. economic indicators.

Caribbean Fractionals - Don’t Forget About The Cayman Islands!

Mar 30, 2009

By Jim Walberg of Caribbean Islands Realty Another of Jim Walberg’s picks for pure luxury in the Caribbean is the Cayman Islands and the Wyndham Grand Bay Waterford! This Residence Club resort was just added to The Registry Collection!!! There are a couple of other parts of the Caribbean that are missed with those who want a piece of Paradise. One of those special places is the Cayman Islands. The Wyndham Grand Bay Waterford is one of my favorite luxurious choices that you can find in the Caribbean. The Cayman Islands are not noted for the sailing experience that I love, however if you love mash potato coral sand beaches and breathtaking SCUBA diving these are the islands for you.

Paradise Redefined....

Mar 28, 2009 — Liane ("Li") Read, Sea to Sky Real Estate

The Gulf Islands swim alluringly in Georgia Strait (its historic name was the Salish Sea). In 1974, the Provincial Government created a body known as the Islands Trust, with a mandate to "preserve & protect", for the benefit of all B.C. residents, the environmentally pristine nature of these wonderful islands. Growth is controlled by severe zoning/density restrictions, and there will always be a limited inventory of properties for sale, on any Gulf Island, because of this nongrowth policy. Salt Spring Island is the largest and best serviced of the Gulf Islands, with all amenities & services "on island" (including a hospital), and so one does not have to travel off island to some other nearby community. Salt Spring is serviced by three different ferries (one from Vancouver, one from Victoria, and one from mid-Vancouver Island), plus three different floatplane companies (to Vancouver's downtown or to Vancouver International Airport), and in the "season", there's a direct floatplane flight from Seattle. Close to everything, then, and with all services & amenities, required for a great lifestyle, in the 21st Century, and yet with a wonderful sense of being "apart". With a rural/pastoral ambiance, and in the heart of the best protected boating waters in the world, and with a "cool Mediterranean" microclimate, that allows for vineyards, olive groves, and succulent plants that are also found in California, to thrive here, this is truly a paradise! Before the internet erased geography and time, however, this gem of an area, on the Pacific Northwest Coast, was totally undiscovered. With the Trust controlling development, and prohibiting growth, we've got a protected investment area -- the inventory will always be low, here, no matter what kind of market trend is in play. Beauty, ease of access, a yesteryear feel with all the conveniences of the "now" moment...it doesn't get any better! Check out my main website for more info/photos...www.liread.com Look forward to welcoming you to "my island"!

good advice & reasons "why"...in buying Canadian real estate....check out Ursula Morel's blog...

Mar 28, 2009 — Liane ("Li") Read, Sea to Sky Real Estate

Ursula has whetted my appetite about the upcoming Whistler venue, for the 2010 Winter Olympics, and she's made it very easy to understand why a Canadian purchase is so "of interest" to an international buyer. I work for the same company as Ursula (Sea to Sky Premier Properties), and I'm the contact for Salt Spring Island & the Southern Gulf Islands. Ski at Whistler, and sail the protected waters of the Gulf Islands and the San Juan Islands...the best of both worlds!
